BikeE Bag

Reviewed on 05/01/2003

If you commute to work, run errands or tour on your BikeE, you will find the BikeE bag indispensable.  It has a capacity of 1000 cu/inches plus two external water bottle holders.  I find the extra water bottle holders very helpful while on a long day ride in hot weather or while touring where additional water may be needed.  The bag has 2 storage compartments, a large waterproof main compartment and a smaller front compartment.  Both are closed with zippers.  The bag's shape is maintained by an internal metal stiffener and a plastic plate in the bottom.  A padded shoulder strap is also included for when you want to carry it.

At $80 the BikeE bag was fairly expensive when new.  I found mine on the used market for less than half that in perfect condition.  There are still a few available as the last remaining stock items at former BikeE dealers and they do turn up on the used market from time to time.  There are also alternative bags that will work with the BikeE and I have a link to some of these on the accessories page.

As far as I know the bag came in 2 varieties, with short attachment straps and long attachment straps.  The bag with the short straps was designed to work with the first seats available on BikeEs.  The backs of these seats were not as tall as the later sweet seats and comfort seats.  I have the bag with the shorter straps but it works fine with my sweet seat.  I just fasten the straps and Velcro attachments around the vertical supports for the seat back.  The base of the bag should rest on the frame.  This is important for both types of bags to provide proper support for any cargo.

If you cannot find a BikeE bag, check out the alternatives I mentioned above or attach a small back pack to the seat.  Either way, the carrying capacity possible on a BikeE will be greatly enhanced.
