Relaxation is the key to success. You don’t yank on the handlebars
to accelerate. Instead, you power up with your legs and let the torque force
your back into the seat. You steer with your fingertips-even under full
acceleration.
Take in the view. Because your head is upright, you get a much
better view than when riding a conventional bike. The upright and supported
seating position means there’s no back or neck strain-even after extended
climbing.
Press for success. The recumbent alternative to rising out of the
saddle over the bumps or while descending is to rise out of the seat a couple
of inches and press your back into the seat-back. This increases the bike’s
ability to absorb big bumps and adds a great degree of control.
Learn from low riders. For extended road riding, run the handlebar
in a comfortable extended position. For serious dirt work, the lower the
handlebar the better. This is especially true for climbing steep hills.
Try everything once. Don’t give up on a technical section because
you have lost faith-keep pedaling until you really stumble. You’ll find that
the BikeE is far more capable than you imagine.
Practice slow-speed maneuvers in a parking lot and you’ll be
better prepared for your first trail ride.
Corner like a mad man. You can’t drag the pedals around corners,
and your low center of gravity makes sliding either wheel very controllable.
Learn to trust it.
How do I adjust the rear
suspension? The BikeE
rear shock is designed to be preloaded with air. The shock requires a shock
pump or other pump that offers pressurizing to 300 psi. Since the BikeE is
designed to be used by riders of all sizes, you will need to experiment with
the amount of pressure your shock requires. A good starting point for the air
pressure is your weight plus 10%. When you sit on the bike you do not want
more than 1/8" of compression in the rear shock. When riding you do not
want the shock bouncing up and down. You want the shock to activate primarily
when you hit bumps.
How do I adjust the front
suspension?
A good starting point for the air pressure is your weight plus 50%. To
adjust the front suspension on the BikeE RX and FX, disconnect the front
brake, remove the front wheel and remove the cap from the Schrader valve. Use
your BikeE shock pump, or other high pressure pump, to preload the shock with
the appropriate amount of air for you and your riding style.
